Sometimes, all it takes is one voice to shake the room.

At the ongoing NBA Annual General Conference (AGC), Yemi Akangbe, SAN, stood on stage during his panel session and did something that many had quietly ignored for years he called out the Nigerian Bar Association on its own Constitution.

With calm firmness, he reminded everyone that the NBA Constitution makes it clear: at every General Meeting, there must be a presentation of financial reports. Yet, according to him, for the past two to eight years, no such reports have been approved by members. Year after year, the silence continued and nobody seemed to be asking questions.

But today, someone did.

Not long after his remark, something remarkable happened. Barely two hours later, NBA members began receiving emails—the long-awaited Treasurer’s Report had been sent out. After years of delay, the documents suddenly moved with the speed of light.

Coincidence? Or the undeniable ripple effect of speaking truth to power?

Why This Moment Matters ?

This wasn’t just about a financial report. It was about accountability. It was about showing that when leaders, no matter how respected or established, are held to their own rules, institutions respond.

Yemi Akangbe’s comment was more than a criticism; it was a mirror held up to the Association—a reminder that transparency is not optional, it’s foundational. And in that moment, the NBA had no choice but to act.

Truth-Tellers Get Things Done

Is God not good? Yes! But let’s also give flowers to those who are bold enough to say what needs to be said. People like Yemi Akangbe, who remind us that silence is not always golden.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one truth spoken out loud to move what has been stuck for years. And today, that truth moved faster than anyone expected.
