The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) assures that Kano State is secure and prepared to host the upcoming NBA Section on Legal Practice (SLP) conference, despite recent tensions over the traditional Emir of Kano’s position.

In an official statement, NBA’s National Publicity Secretary, Akorede Habeeb Lawal, acknowledged the situation but stressed that assurances from the Kano State Government and law enforcement agencies guarantee the conference’s safety.

NBA President, Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, encourages attendees to proceed with their plans, affirming the conference’s significance and promise.

The NBA, through its statement, asserts Kano’s readiness and safety for the NBA-SLP conference, supported by endorsements from local NBA branches and the conference’s Local Organizing Committee Chairman, Mr. Aminu Sani Gadanya, mni.

Amidst ongoing tensions over Kano’s traditional leadership, notably the recent repeal of the Kano Emirates Council law, the NBA’s decision to continue with the conference underscores its confidence in the state government and law enforcement to ensure security and a successful event.

Scheduled from June 2 to 5, the NBA-SLP conference aims to gather legal practitioners nationwide to discuss “Administration of Justice in Nigeria: Challenges and Reforms,” reflecting the association’s dedication to legal dialogue and upholding the rule of law, despite prevailing difficulties.
