Meta, the social media giant, has announced a significant opportunity for Nigerian and Ghanaian content creators who have amassed at least 5,000 followers on Facebook. Starting from July 1, 2024, these creators will now be able to monetize their content through two new features: In-Stream Ads on Facebook and Facebook Ads on Reels.

The introduction of these monetization tools marks a pivotal moment for creators, allowing them to earn revenue from their original videos and engage with their communities on a deeper level. Meta highlighted that eligible creators in Nigeria and Ghana will have the opportunity to profit from their video and reels content, with support available in more than 30 languages globally.

In a statement, Meta emphasized that creators must adhere to Facebook’s partnership monetization and content policies and be at least 18 years old to utilize these features. Specifically, for In-Stream Ads, creators must meet the requirement of having a minimum of 5,000 followers.

Moon Baz, Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey at Meta, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, noting the impact it will have on the creative industries in Nigeria and Ghana. Baz highlighted that this initiative aims to elevate creativity worldwide and consolidate Meta’s apps as the preferred platform for all creators.

In terms of functionality, In-Stream Ads can appear before, during, or after on-demand videos, including both pre-recorded content and live stream recordings. These ads encompass various formats such as Pre-roll Ads, Mid-roll Ads, Image Ads, and Post-roll Ads, enhancing monetization opportunities across different content types.

Ads on Facebook Reels, on the other hand, seamlessly integrate into original Reels, allowing creators to earn based on the performance of their content while entertaining their audience. This integrated approach underscores Meta’s commitment to supporting creators and fostering a vibrant digital ecosystem in the regions.
