On Friday, 1 March 2024, Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN, Chairman of the NBA Securities Agencies Relations Committee (NBA-SARC), attended the NBA Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) monthly meeting. In his address to the meeting, the Learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria commiserated with the Branch on the tragic death of a former Secretary of the Branch, Mr. Agidi, who was kidnapped and later killed by his abductors.
Mr. Ikwuazom seized the opportunity to reiterate the commitment of the NBA-SARC to ensuring that lawyers are safe from all forms of assault, intimidation, or threat in the course of discharging their professional duties to their clients. He noted that assaults on lawyers are almost becoming an epidemic and called on the profession to speak with a very strong voice in condemnation of this ugly trend.
The Learned Silk announced that the NBA-SARC is planning a town hall meeting across the three zones of the NBA and that the town hall meeting for the Northern Zome will take place in the last week of March, 2024.
The planned town hall meeting, according to the Learned Silk, will bring together heads of security agencies and lawyers to explore ways of completely eradicating or reducing to the barest minimum the frictions between lawyers and security agencies.
In closing, Mr Ikwuazom commended the leadership of the Unity Bar for the great work that it is doing.
