An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has issued an order invalidating the selection and appointment of the Onifiditi of Fiditi, Oba Oyeleye Sakirudeen. The ruling, part of case IHOY/59/2013, involves applicants Samuel Ogunkunle and Bayo Oyewale against defendants Oba Oyeleye Sakirudeen, Ademola Akande, Depo Oguntoyin, and Kunle Oniyitan, among others.

Additional defendants include Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde (fifth), the Commissioner for Justice (sixth), the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters (seventh), and Chief Adebola (eighth).

A certified true copy of the court judgment, obtained by The PUNCH on Tuesday, indicates that Justice K.B. Olawoyin also issued an injunction prohibiting the defendants, their representatives, or agents from further actions or steps related to filling the Onifiditi of Fiditi stool, pending the outcome of the case.

The court document shows that R.A. Olawuwo and B.M. Olimene represented the claimants on February 1, 2024, while P.O. Alamu represented the first, second, third, and eighth defendants. O.A. Okeyinka was counsel for the fourth defendant, and N.A. Abiola represented the fifth, sixth, and seventh defendants.

In his ruling, Justice Olawoyin declared that the presentation of the Staff of Office to Oba Oyeleye Sakirudeen as Onifiditi of Fiditi on October 18, 2021, was invalid, and set it aside. The court also ordered the defendants to pay a cost of N200,000 to the applicants. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for May 22.
