
The Nigerian government has initiated discussions with INTERPOL and launched a search operation to apprehend Nadeem Anjarwalla, an executive at Binance, who fled custody.
Anjarwalla, aged 38, was under investigation for various offenses related to Binance’s operations in Nigeria, including tax evasion.
Following his conviction on March 21, he escaped from detention on March 22, triggering a manhunt. Security personnel responsible for his escape have also been apprehended.
Despite his evasion, authorities assert that the imposed $10 billion fines for money laundering by Binance remain unaffected.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja has approved Binance’s request to pay $4.3 billion in settlement for anti-money laundering violations.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, assured the public that efforts are underway to recapture Anjarwalla and emphasized that the escape would not impede the enforcement of financial penalties against Binance.
“Yes, the man has escaped from our custody, and there is now a manhunt on him. Those who were charged with his custody have been arrested and will be brought to book,” said Idris.
Also, speaking on the matter, Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, clarified that the legal action targets the company itself, ensuring compliance irrespective of individual escapes.
This is because the FG is dealing with the company, not individuals, Adedeji explained
“We are dealing with the company and not individuals, and we can enforce compliance with our laws.
